In spite of the recent cyclone in NZ, đĽKiwipool Staking is fully operational and has had zero downtime. The location where our baremetal servers are deployed thankfully had no outages, nor flooding or leaks. Even so, our automatic failover to cloud would've kicked in & taken over block production.
Having such a robust system in place to protect all of our precious delegations, as well as our service to the Cardano network, certainly made for peace of mind throughout what was undoubtedly a wet and wild storm.
But more importantly, is everyone OK? For those of you in New Zealand that were affected by the storm I hope things are getting back to normal for you now?!
Unfortunately my home didn't fare as well as my server location with the power going off for almost 5 days but thankfully came back online around 0100 this morning.
We had torrential sideways rain that lasted unabated for 18 hours solid. This in turn saturated our 350mm thick rammed earth walls to the point of leaking internally. Looking forward to some sun to dry them out! Very grateful to now have electricity available to use our washing machine to wash all the towels that were used to mop up the water and hot showers for my wife and kids and other things we typically take for granted.
Our generator was a godsend during this time!
Unfortunately we lost some livestock in the storm a couple of weeks earlier but thankfully the sheep came through unscathed in this recent cyclone.
Having seen first hand the devastation wreaked by this storm my heart goes out to the families that lost their homes and, in some cases, their lives or the lives of their family and loved ones. Likewise to the many souls in Turkey after the recent devastating earthquakes and to the people of East Palestine, Ohio after the dubious train derailment and chemical spills.
I hope this blog post finds you well and unaffected by storms, earthquakes, chemical spills and other such calamities.
